Adrian and Felicity, owners of News On William Adrian and Felicity, have kept the business thriving throughout slow retail periods and changes to the retail and newsagency industry.
Felicity said while technology has certainly had an impact on the traditional newspaper business, they still have a wide range of gifts, merchandise and other services on offer. “We really are becoming a one stop shop for a lot of things including stationery and gifts but also still the traditional magazines and newspapers”.
“We have really focused on our gift range and have a great selection available from novelty gifts, puzzles and toys through to items for special occasions such as 21st’s, christenings and weddings. Lotto is also strong as always and it’s always good to see a winner walk out with a smile on their face,” she said.
As you wander along William Street, the footpaths are dotted with fashion and clothing stores including Carillon Clothing, Bent Threads and Gorgeousness.
Robyn from Red Chair Boutique said that William Street was a great place for business and that she looked forward to more sole traders and unique businesses opening their doors. “I know a lot of businesses say it but we really do focus on customer service along with quality and sustainable clothing”.
“You never know what you are really getting when you buy online. With clothing you need to make sure you can see the colour, feel the fabric and of course that it fit’s correctly,” she said.
Robyn said that she had a strong focus for Australian brands such as Blanc Deluxe and Adrift in Red Chair Boutique, and provided additional services including make up and accessory tuition and personal style workshops to help provide a one stop shop for fashion.

Another business who continues to make a valuable contribution to fashion across the Central West is Regency Jewellers. Regency is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, and after starting as a small, family business in Orange in 1968, has expanded to seven stores across NSW.
The Bathurst store relocated to it’s William Street premises in 2015, with Marketing Manager Emma Crisp saying the new location offered more for both customers and staff. “The building was renovated to provide plenty of stunning display space and we now also have a jeweller on site,” she said.
