VERTO was named the Open Employment winner at this month’s Disability Employment Excellence Awards, part of the National Disability Service’s (NDS) Disability at Work conference.
The awards recognise and promote the contribution disability enterprises and employment services providers make in improving the lives of people with disability.
CEO of VERTO, Ron Maxwell, said it was a great achievement to be awarded in such a way.
“We are honoured to be nominated for and win the Open Employment Award,” he said.
“It is a privilege to provide Disability Employment Services to our clients in regional NSW and see the positive impact employment can have on their lives.”
What makes VERTO’s win extra special was that the nomination came from one of the organisation’s job seekers, who, with VERTO’s support, was able to find a job at a local winery and has held that position for more than 18 months.
“It is a massive accolade and it is actually quite rare and a reflection of our staff to have someone do that,” chief operating officer Brittany Jack said.
She and employment services manager Peta Childs said the team did not expect to win the award and were surprised to receive a call strongly encouraging VERTO to have a representative at the awards on June 14.
VERTO has a long history of supporting a wide range of people to find and maintain a supportive employment opportunity or undertake training.
Since 2010, VERTO has placed over 750 job seekers with disability into employment with nearly 500 employers.
Ms Childs said one of the key things VERTO does to achieve the best possible outcomes for its clients it to tailor the approach to suit the individual circumstances for each person.
VERTO is also planning to extend its Disability Employment Service contract to cover more locations across the Central West and North Coast of New South Wales from July 1.
