Karen Beattie works in the intensive care unit and has been instrumental in implementing the ICU Level 4 Model of Care at Bathurst.
Her work was recognised at the Living Quality & Safety Health and Innovation Awards on Thursday night when she was named the joint winner of the Studer Group Staff Member of the Year for the western region.
Ms Beattie has also worked on the District Cardiology Review, working collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve best outcomes.
“Karen works to improve knowledge within the nursing and medical workforce through educational activities relating to her educator role and expertise in Advanced Life Support,” her award citation reads.
“Karen is an inspiring leader at Bathurst Hospital and in the ICU. Karen also contributes to district intensive care services working closely with the district ICU clinical nurse consultant and other ICU nurse educators to develop district-wide education activities.”
Award finalists presented their projects via video and poster presentation at a symposium in Dubbo on Thursday, allowing projects to be showcased to staff and managers from across the district.
Special guests Dr Fiona Kerr and Ben Austin spoke to participants on the day to share their individual stories and help motivate managers and staff from across the district.
