EVEN with a 7-1 scoreline in their favour St Pat’s will feel as if they could have bagged more goals in their women’s Premier League Hockey match against Zig Zag on Saturday.

Saints will want to put a lacklustre start to the second half behind them and instead take plenty away from the rest of Saturday’s contest at Bob Roach Field, where they thoroughly outplayed their Lithgow opponents.
Kristy Ekert, Julie Hanman and Sarah Watterson all scored twice for the hosts while Lucy Weal found the remaining goal.
Pat’s coach Jaden Ekert said he’ll take the four points but said there’s plenty to improve on.
“We didn’t play as well as we could have, but we played well enough to get the win,” he said.
“Their goalkeeper [Kirsty Jenkins] made some sensational saves. It really could have been 12 or more.
“We lacked a few a few basics like our last pass, and we were rushing into the circle when we should have been more patient.”
Hanman opened the scoring just three minutes in and Ekert soon delivered a second Saints goal when she was given too much time to turn and shoot by the Zig Zag defence.
Ekert’s second goal and a successful, long range reverse stick shot from Watterson looked certain to take Pat’s to a 4-0 half-time lead before Jana Winnard got Lithgow on the board from a penalty corner.
After an early, brutal strike from Watterson early in the new half Pat’s began to lose their structure in attack and turnover the ball.
Zig Zag were unable to capitalise on those errors and on the hour mark Weal’s goal helped get Pat’s back into gear.
Hanman finished a fast break from the Saints to take the tally to seven goals 15 minutes out from full-time.
Saints were successful on just one of 14 short corners while Zig Zag were successful one of their two attempts.
