While the Giants were set to remain in third regardless of the outcome of the clash at George Park 1, the Bathurst outfit was still determined to strengthen its hold.
“It was very physical because they [Orange] are a big side, but it was great,” Giants coach Liz Kennedy said.
“I never expected we would be in this position, but we are. It’s good times at the moment.”
Things were tight early on, the Giants leading by just two points at quarter-time, but they restricted Orange to a single behind in the second term to lead 3-3-21 to 1-17 at the long break.
The Tigerettes responded in the third quarter to close the margin to 10 points, but the Giants finished the stronger of the teams to register their sixth win.
Olivia Flood was the Giants’ players’ player, but there were others who impressed.
“She has just improved every week Liv. She was in the back line and she was just great,” Kennedy said.
“We’ve also got Brooke Alexander in at fullback and the moment, she’s a fullback from soccer, so she’s very, very good for us in the back line.
“We had another couple of youth girls come and play for us and they stood up. Young Saige Davies and Molly Mann both played for us.”
