The local circus performance troupe from Denison College Kelso campus has once again been invited to be roving performers at the festival.
People will be treated to a wide variety of performances throughout the evening, with many of the performers lit up like Christmas trees.
Cirkus Surreal coordinator Stephanie Brown said there will be performances in Machattie Park throughout Saturday night, as well as street performers walking throughout the precinct in costume.
“July 7 is really our big night because we’ll be doing our aerials,” she said, adding that the troupe will be back at the festival the following Saturday.
Students have been rehearsing for quite some time to ensure they are ready to entertain.
The costuming has also taken a long time to design and make.
Ms Brown said the costumes are a crucial part of the performances, because they have to both look good and keep the students warm.
“They love being out and around the crowd, so there is not much time to go inside and be warm,” she said.
Cirkus Surreal has been part of the Bathurst Winter Festival program since the event was introduced.
Ms Brown said the troupe always leaves space free in the schedule so students can have the chance to perform locally at an event that is significant to their community.
“I think when it is cold it is lovely to be out in the crisp air and there are so many attractions,” she said.
“Into the Wild is the theme, so we have a little bit of Christmas in July with a twist.”
