Various organisations have devised comprehensive school holiday programs to appeal to the differing interests of Bathurst children and teenagers.
Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) will offer six workshops across the two-week period, which have drawn inspiration from current exhibitions.
The first workshop is scheduled for Tuesday at 10.30am.
Gallery assistant Jo Dicksen said the workshop, Winter sun mood boards, will essentially involve making collages.
“That one is being inspired by Rachel Ellis’ exhibition here and getting people to create mood boards,” she said.
On Wednesday, children will have the opportunity to learn the basics of portraiture, while Thursday’s workshop will involve using metal to make sculptures.
Each workshop costs $10 per person.
Ms Dicksen said children always have a lot of fun at BRAG during the school holidays.
“You go into one of these workshops and see all these kids; it looks like complete chaos, but [the tutors] Fiona and Isabel always have their fingers on the pulse,” she said.
It is essential parents book early as places are limited. To book, call 6333 6555 or visit the gallery.
“We do often sell out and some of them are getting close to selling out, so it is always a good idea to book early,” Ms Dicksen said.
Bathurst Library also has a full school holiday program available to families.
Workshops will be held daily during the first week of the holidays, with three more then to be offered during the second week.
The first three workshops will link with each other.
On Monday, children will make igloos and are then encouraging to return with their teddy bears on Tuesday for a teddy bear sleepover.
On Wednesday, children return to the library for teddy bear story time and to see what their bears got up to overnight.
Thursday’s workshop will be yoga for kids, while Friday will see children use their creativity to make cardboard ice rinks.
A full program can be found at Bathurst Library, or is available online from Bathurst Regional Council’s website and the Bathurst Library Facebook page.

The Kelso Community Hub will offer a variety of events on its program, many of which are free to attend.
