The Winter Playground fixtures such as the McDonald’s Bathurst Ice Rink, House of Mirrors, ferris wheel and illuminations will also feature at Brew and Bite and will continue until Sunday, July 22.
On Sunday, the Youth Council’s Groove and Grill will run from 11am to 4pm. The event will feature some of the region’s most talented young musicians. There will be food and drinks available. Pack a picnic blanket and bring friends and family to enjoy a relaxing Sunday session together.
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our community. It was wonderful to see our morning tea and flag-raising ceremony so well-attended.
This year's theme is “Because of Her, We Can”. One of the elements the theme encompasses is the important roles Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played, and continue to play, in the community at local, state and national levels.
I would like to thank everyone who was involved in the event which brings our community together to celebrate NAIDOC Week.

Targeting illegal firearms during this new amnesty
AN important reminder to the community that the NSW Firearm Amnesty has started.
I am urging people in the Bathurst electorate to register or hand over any illegal firearms in their possession to the local police.
The three-month gun amnesty runs from July 1 to September 30, 2018. Last year, nearly 25,000 firearms were netted by NSW Police during the national gun amnesty.
However, there are still firearms in the community that people no longer want or want to register.
Whether the firearm was inherited or found, this three-month amnesty period will allow people to come forward and legally dispose or register the firearm without fear of prosecution.
Anyone with concerns about handing firearms in or safely transporting them can contact the NSW Police Force Firearms Registry on 1300 362 562 for assistance.
Festival time
THE big chill is being felt across the region and I can’t think of a better way to spend the school holidays than paying a visit to the Bathurst Winter Festival.
It kicked off last weekend and continues until July 22 with attractions for people of all ages.
There’s the ice skating rink, giant ferris wheel and House of Mirrors in Kings Parade, while historic buildings such as the court house look just spectacular with the way they are being illuminated.
This Saturday night there’s the Brew and Bite featuring pop-up street food and beverage stalls and live performances.
This year’s theme of “A Journey Into the Wild” carries through into Machattie Park, so make a visit to the Bathurst Winter Festival the number one attraction on your calendar.

Funding available
I WOULD encourage organisations across the Bathurst electorate to apply for a share of $200,000 from the NSW Government to host events that encourage older people to get involved in the 2019 NSW Seniors Festival events and activities.
Councils, volunteer groups and community organisations are encouraged to apply for grants.
