The last time Bathurst reached -5 was when the mercury hit -5.5 on July 29, 2017.
July is also the month when the city’s coldest day on record, -8, was recorded.
The mercury hit -3 degrees on Wednesday morning and two days in June have already seen -4.5.
Weatherzone meteorologist Jacob Cronje said the predicted cold weather is because of a low pressure system that is expected to move in from the Tasman Sea on Friday.
“The cold air will push into the eastern part of the country and cause clear skies,” he said.
“Clear skies and cold fronts make for perfect cold weather.”
Clear skies and cold weather also make for perfect early morning frost weather, so motorists who are travelling in the morning will have to get up extra early to scrape the frost off their vehicles.
Weatherzone labelled Bathurst’s frost risk as “severe” from Thursday right through to next Tuesday.
However, no rain or snow has been forecast for Bathurst in the coming seven days, with sunny conditions installed for the city until next Tuesday.
