Flash-forward four years and the illuminations are still a significant part of the overall festival atmosphere.
ESEM Projects has created the illuminations for the festival in three of the four years it has been part of Bathurst's calendar.
Each year, the designers work to a theme and in 2018 that theme was 'Into the wild'.
ESEM director Michael Killalea said the feedback on the illuminations has been positive.
“Everyone has seemed to like them,” he said.
He added that people have particularly enjoyed the tunnel of light installation in Machattie Park.
The tunnel has been a backdrop for a number a photos and Mr Killalea said ESEM would like to have similar elements for photos if the company returns in future years.
"We probably would frame them differently in different years," he said.
The illuminations are projected onto the court house, in Court House Lane and on the Cathedral of St Michael and St John daily from dusk.
They will remain in place until the conclusion of the Bathurst Winter Festival on Sunday, July 22.
