One of the goals of the event is to empower people with a disability and ensure they can be part of the Winter Festival in a safe and supported environment.
The LiveBetter Accessibility Day last Friday provided reduced capacity ice-skating sessions and featured volunteers from LiveBetter on hand to assist.
The day proved extremely popular with both young and old. It enabled people with a disability from Sydney and as far away as Bourke to enjoy the fun of the McDonald’s Bathurst Ice Rink.
It was wonderful to witness the beautiful smiles on the faces of those who took part.
Brew and Bite was another successful feature event.
Thousands of people were in our CBD on Saturday enjoying the attractions, activities, food and wine, and entertainment.
The extended hours helped make Brew and Bite even more family friendly, providing the opportunity for families to enjoy the event from lunchtime onwards.
The feature event and the Winter Festival as a whole contribute greatly to our local economy in what is traditionally a quiet time of year.
I am pleased that so many businesses are getting involved by decorating their shop fronts, hosting their own events or extending their menus and trading hours for the two-week period. Thank you for your support.
Remember that the Winter Playground attractions, including the Bathurst McDonald’s Ice Rink, ferris wheel and House of Mirrors, will continue through to Sunday night.
If you haven’t had a chance to experience them yet, come down and enjoy them while you can.

The Active Kids program is certainly off and running
THE NSW Government’s Active Kids program has well and truly hit the ground running.
I am proud to report that in the Bathurst electorate alone, 6230 Active Kids vouchers have been issued since the program came online on January 31.
Across the state, the top five most popular sports are soccer, netball, rugby league, dance and swimming.
Parents, guardians and carers can apply for a $100 Active Kids voucher per calendar year for each student enrolled in school which can be put towards the registration and participation costs for sport and active recreation activities for their kids.
The good news is that Active Kids vouchers can be used until December 31, so whether your child takes part in summer or winter sports, or even dance, make the most of this opportunity.
You can apply for a voucher online through the MyServiceNSW account, and then redeem the voucher at your local sporting club or approved provider.
Life-saving grants
WHAT I believe is one of the most important funding streams available across the Bathurst electorate is once again open for applications.
The NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program really is a life-saver.
It offers clubs and sporting organisations the opportunity to receive 50 per cent of the cost of purchasing an Automatic External Defibrillator.
I would encourage all eligible organisations to consider taking advantage of this grants program because you really never know when someone is going to go into cardiac arrest and could be in need of this device.
Successful applicants can receive $1250 in funds towards the installation and maintenance cost of a defibrillator.
Applications close September 14. Visit www.sport.nsw.gov.au/grants/defibrillator.
