This is what to expect when indie folk outfit the Tipsy Scholars takes to the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC) stage on Friday.
In what is BMEC’S Monthly Band Night, the night will be a chance to celebrate local and regional musicians in a relaxed environment.
The band was formed in 2014 and is made up of James Kelly, Conagh McMahon-Hogan, Joel Shapero and Alec Brinsmead.
Since forming, the band has made a firm impression on their home towns of Bathurst, Sydney and Canberra, acquiring a loyal and raucous fan base.
With a rich and diverse array of original works, the Tipsy Scholars tell tales of travel, love and life in a way that only four guys with varying amounts of facial and an assortment of instruments can do.
Only in May the band released its debut EP Nowhere to Be, a collection of five songs that are rich with memorable hooks, honest stories and luscious harmonies.
The first single from the EP “Cold Hands” was added to over 70 radio stations across Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, which helped the band expand their already growing following.
Building on the foundation made by previous singles “Looking Glass”, “Daydream Author” and “1960s”, “Cold Hands” signalled an important development in the band’s sound and commitment to their creative cause.
The result of years of writing, touring and mateship, Nowhere to Be is a major milestone for a band who has big plans for the future.
Since the band’s inception, there has been an organic comradery between the four members who met at The Australian National University in Canberra, having moved from their respective towns in Bathurst and Sydney.
The band has previously performed at the Inland Sea of Sound.
The band is currently in the middle of its Nowhere to Be Tour and will head to the United Kingdom and Ireland next month.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.bmec.com.au or by calling BMEC at 6333 6161.
