The concept was conceived by JOV’s residential advisers to encourage people to talk about issues they are facing.
“There’s a common phrase we use at uni and that’s TITF – talk is totally fine,” JOV residential adviser Grace Bickmore-Hutt said.
“We’re trying to encourage people to talk about mental health because it’s something that is important to us.
“We’ve got headspace involved to help us out and refer people on to headspace if they are struggling.
“This is the first year we’ve had this partnership with headspace.”
JOV and headspace launched their mental health initiative on Tuesday on the lawns of the university’s library.
“We’ve been talking to people about mental health, but this initiative is not just for people living at JOV, but the whole university, the different residences and for people doing any kind of course,” Ms Bickmore-Hutt said.
“We just want people to know that there are people to talk to if they need to.”
Headspace is a free, youth-friendly service for all young people aged 12 to 25 years who are having a tough time or who would like to improve their health and well-being.
The free services accessed at headspace depend on the person’s needs and goals.
