RAGLAN family day care provider Emma Foskett has been recognised as one of the nation’s finest early childhood educators.
She was recently announced as the Central West/Blue Mountains regional winner in the 2018 Excellence in Family Day Care Awards.
Ms Foskett was nominated by the parent of a child she cares for and then had to make a submission which was judged as the region’s winner by Family Day Care Australia.
She has run Little Munchkins Family Day Care since 2014 and said it is a role loved.
“Family day care is an amazing way for children to come and learn,” she said.
“They’re [parents] just giving you the most precious thing they have and to be entrusted with that is amazing.”
I’m excited that they value what I’m doing in providing for their children.Little Muchkins Family Day Care's Emma Foskett
Ms Foskett said she was very humbled to have been nominated by Josie Drummond who is the parent of Evie, 5, and Ethan, 2, who attend Little Munchkins.
“I’m excited that they value what I’m doing in providing for their children,” Ms Foskett said.
Ms Drummond said her six-week-old son Leo would also attend Little Munchkins when he was older.
“She’s always there for us and deserves to be recognised,” she said of Ms Foskett’s family day care service.
“It’s more personalised, more flexible and definitely more child focused.
“The kids love it and they love being able to go, it’s more of a friend thing [attending a family day care].”
Bathurst Family Day Care’s Carrolyn Halsey said there were 39 educators in the Bathurst, Oberon and Lithgow catchment.
She said family day care educators had the same qualifications as workers in a child care centre, and children took part in the same learning curriculum.
Ms Halsey praised Ms Foskett’s passion for the role and said she was “inspirational”.
