Mariners goalkeeper Jess Daymond had the best seat in the house to watch two “cracking” goals from Nepean’s Stefanie Trovato and Britney Pelle sail over hear head from outside the box.
There was nothing Daymond could do, with Nepean’s second goal through Pelle a slight slip-up from Mariners’ defence, but Trovato’s strike unstoppable.
“It was a shot from outside the box and it went straight over my head – there was nothing I could have done,” she said.
The result is a tough pill to swallow, with Mariners taking the game to a higher-ranked team and coming off second-best despite dominating two weeks in a row.
“I thought we were on top all game,” Daymond said.
“Much like last week we were all over them but unfortunately they got those goals, even though we controlled 80 per cent of the game.”
The back four stood up, with Daymond praising the work of Ella-Rose Hawes and Poorsha Mcphillamy, with the latter filling a hole due to injury to Chloe Anlezark.
“I’m really proud of my backs,” Daymond said. “Ella [Hawes] played out of her skin and Poorsha did really well.”
Daymond also said Brydie Comiskey played a “really strong” game, and she hoped the side could pick up some more wins on the run home with two weeks left to play.
“It’d be nice to get reward for the hard work of the past few weeks in the last games.”
