Denyer will join with Supercars driver Tony D’Alberto at the wheel of the Class A1 #10 Simply Sports Cars Lotus Exige for two 300 kilometre races this weekend, including the infamous ‘Fight in the Night’ race which will be held under lights on Saturday evening.
“I love how many cars are here and I love how many different cars and makes there are – it is like this really fun playground to be in as a race car driver,” Denyer exclaimed.
“There are all different classes and speeds and cars have different strengths at different parts of the track – it is cool, it is ‘old school’ cool.
“It is really good track time too, like, an amazing amount of track time. For bang for buck you can’t really beat it. It is cool!”

While this weekend’s event marks round two of the Australian Production Cars season, Firday’s practice laps were Denyer’s first with the series after the #10 Simply Sports Cars entry was scratched early at Sandown’s round one in May.
With D’Alberto at the wheel for that event’s opening practice, the Lotus aquaplaned in wet conditions for heavy contact with a fellow competitor’s car and was unable to continue for the weekend.
“The Simply Sports Cars guys have put together a ripper Lotus for us, rebuilding it for us following our unfortunate accident in practice at the first round,” Denyer said.
“These are a great bunch of guys, it is a good car and a good team. Hopefully we can claw back some points in the championship although we didn’t make it through the first round.
“There are so many hours of racing to be done between now and the end of the championship, anything is possible. So, we are having fun, and if you are having fun you have cracked the code for life I reckon!”
Part of the hours of racing ahead for this weekend at QR is the hugely popular Fight in the Night race, to be held on Saturday evening.
“It should be good – I did the opening stint at the Bathurst 12 Hour this year so I did a bit of night stuff there which I am glad about,” chuckled Denyer.
“It will be fun. With so many cars it will be hectic, but awesome! I think it is a great little twist on what is already a cool series.
“I don’t know how bright our headlights are, I might strap a torch to my head with race tape! I am up for a bit of experimenting!” he joked.
While Denyer is learning the ropes of the APC class he is also coming to grips with the Lotus race car in an unfamiliar format.
“I haven’t done much racing lately over the last 18 months and I haven’t really driven a Lotus on a circuit. I have done tarmac rallying with it, so I am kind of learning it in this configuration – both successfully and unsuccessfully in tarmac rallying,” he laughed.
As well as Denyer, Bathurst brothers Blake and Kyle Aubin will race at the Ipswich venue as part of the series.
