Construction has largely been focused on the new building on the northern side of the complex, with Hines Constructions project manager Dallas Harvey saying it was going well.
“The lower level retail outlets have progressed quite well. There is one that is currently with council for a fit-out and another that is underway. The aim is to have them open by the end of August,” he said.
The new car park is also meant to be finished by the same time.
“At that time the plan is to close the old Wark Parade and have that done by race weekend in October,” Mr Harvey said.
The childcare centre, which will be on the upper level of the new building, is also on track, while the existing retailers are preparing to move in the coming weeks.
“The first one to move over will be the pharmacy and hopefully hot on the heels of that D’Aquinos,” Mr Harvey said, adding that it is all subject to council approval.
In another exciting step, the leasing agents for the development have been appointed.
Bathurst Real Estate and Raine and Horne will share the responsibility of finding tenants to fill the new spaces.
Raine and Horne director Matt Clifton said his agency was excited to be joining the project as the “timing is right for this kind of development” in the area.
“For us, it is a great location as it is taking advantage of the way Bathurst is growing out in the Llanarth area,” he said.
He said there has been a little bit of interest already from potential tenants and the demand would likely increase as the construction progressed.
Bathurst Real Estate principal Mick Whittaker said the developers have selected “two very strong commercial agents” to find tenants for Westpoint.
His agency is seeing strong interest as well from the potential tenants it has approached.
“Windradyne is a massive growth area of our city and the site has been screaming out for a bigger supermarket plus more opportunity for variety and also lots of car parking,” Mr Whittaker said.
“This is a great development and the timing is perfect; we have already approached a few good quality tenants and interest so far has been quite strong.
“Shopping centres like this are important to the fabric of our growing community and give people a great choice of shopping and eating; once the cafes and food places are open the centre will be abuzz with people coming and going all day seven days per week.”
