WE at Bathurst parkrun were quite pleased to see columnist Parade’s glowing reference (“Distraction attraction”, Wednesday, August 1) to our second birthday event last Saturday.

As your columnist was there, Parade would have heard that it was our 104th straight week event, and we continue to be amazed at the commitment of the Bathurst community, with 220 participants and volunteers (with special mention to the Star Wars Red Leader and the two Elves with Attitude marshalling on the high bridge!) turning out in near zero temperatures.
We had a dozen new people turn up, which we love, and a handful of visitors from as far away as Scotland.
The whole parkrun tourism movement is a very real phenomenon - I have now done about 30 different ones with holidays now planned around parkrun locations.
Every week there is someone who has travelled to Bathurst just to do our parkrun.
We have had nearly 1000 volunteer stints and nearly 10,000 finishes in that time.
So again, many thanks for the mention - perhaps the only thing I would add is that it is absolutely free and will stay that way.
Register at parkrun.com.au and turn up with a printed barcode. It is that simple.
That barcode is your passport to every single parkrun in the world - about 1300 of them!
