A four-year-old feature race held over the mile, the honours looked set to go to $1.30 favourite Gotta Go Ya Hu as he led the way down the straight with Lauren Tritton in the gig.
But Turnbull, who had sat in the trail with her $7.30 prospect, worked clear with just over 200m to go.
Ellmers Image still had ground to make up, but a strong final 75m saw the Falcon Seelster x Ellmer Joy gelding snatch the honours by a half head.
His win came in a hot 1:51.4 mile rate – the final two splits covered in 26.4 and 26.9 seconds – and made it seven victories in his last eight starts for Turnbull.
It was also the first Group win on Australian soil for the New Zealand native.
