As the finish line in the annual 14 kilometre event loomed, St Lawrence and fellow Olympian Liam Adams were running shoulder-to-shoulder.
But St Lawrence, who graduated from CSU in 2005, kicked clear with a final sprint to take the honours at Bondi in a time of 41 minutes, 35 seconds.
“We kind of worked together into the headwind make sure the boys didn’t catch us and then it was on for the last few [kilometres],” St Lawrence said.
“I tried to drop him [Adams] down the hill, but I forget that he’s probably Australia’s best descender.
“[After the final corner] I wasn’t exactly sure how long it was to the finish but I wanted to be in front.”
Sunday’s win added to St Lawrence’s triumph in 2010 when he stopped the clock in 41.05.
There were more than 80,000 participants in this year’s edition of the City2Surf, the biggest run of it’s kind in the world.
