Trained by Mudgee’s Robert Sonter, Angelica Cargo ($2.50 favourite) held off a wall of three other challengers to find a long awaited third career victory.
Monday was the second race back for Angelic Cargo after a five month stint away from racing. After a sixth at Lithgow a week earlier punters were backing her to rebound at Bathurst.
Angelica Cargo narrowly led throughout the whole trip to see off Crumps Lil Angel ($5, 0.75 lengths) and Blue Boy Cargo ($3.30, 1.25 lengths).
Winlock Glitzy (1.75 lengths) was unfortunate to miss a placing.
The winning time was 26.84 seconds.
“She’d been out for three months with a torn shoulder. She’d trialled really well and she’s going along alright at the moment,” Sonter said.
“It was a well-contested race. She didn’t win it by a big margin or in a good time but she won it convincingly.”
Blue Boy Cargo looked to have got a head in front on the turn for home while Crumps Lil Angel was looming on the outside.

Winlock Glitzy also threw herself into the fray with an ominous rails run.
Along with Angelica Cargo, that made for a wall of four runners who all had winning hopes on the home stretch.
Angelic Cargo dug deep to stay ahead. Sonter’s bitch claimed her first victory in almost a year, and her debut Bathurst triumph.
