The widespread drought has impacted farmers and businesses across the region so Barry man Dean Martin has joined forces with Blayney Community Baptist Church to come up with a plan to help.

The duo approached businesses across Bathurst, Blayney and Orange to get them involved and so far 18 have joined up to help out.

Coleman’s Bathurst is among the retailers taking part, and spokesman Stephen McDonogh said they donated five hay bales to the fundraiser.

“Farming is intricately involved with the community and if they’re suffering we’re all suffering,” he said.

Blayney Pharmacy is also involved and owner Quynh Nguyen said they will donate $2 from every $20 spent in store.

There is also a money box in the store for customers to make a donation.

“It’s just good for the town that we’re a part of. We need to support the community,” Ms Nguyen said.

Mr Martin said the fundraiser would run until October 30 and Blayney Community Baptist Church pastor Brad Hewitt has been tasked with collating the funds raised.

“It’s a great opportunity for the community to see what people are doing and what churches are doing,” Pastor Hewitt said.
