Thursday’s $100 million division one prize is the biggest Powerball jackpot ever offered in the Australian game’s 22-year history.
News on William has already attracted plenty of keen Powerball hopefuls this week and are expecting to be flat strap on Thursday.
“We’ve had a few more than normal coming in. We had $80 million last week, so we had three busy days,” News on William owner Adrian Smith said.
“We tend to get a lot of people coming in not knowing how to put on a Powerball ticket.
“Last Thursday we only had one person behind the machine and they were on it all day. This Thursday we expect to be flat out again.”
Mr Smith said News on William’s best result was when one lucky punter collected $1.6 million a few years ago.
Thursday night’s jackpot is the equal highest Australian lottery jackpot ever recorded.
The only other time there was a $100 million division one prize offered in Australia was for an Oz Lotto draw in 2012.
Last financial year, 18 Powerball division one winning entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions won more than $249 million.
The Lott’s division one winning total has now reached 249 so far in 2018.
The largest ever individual Australian lottery prize is $70 million, claimed by Hervey Bay grandparents.
