The biggest motor sport event in Australia will be held at Mount Panorama from October 4 to 7.
Less than 50 days out from the event, opportunities to camp at the iconic circuit are running out.
Event manager Rachael White said there has been a high demand for sites and there was now less than five per cent of available spaces remaining.
It’s an impressive feat, given that a new campsite, The Orchard, was introduced for this year’s event.
The new release can cater for an additional 600 sites, adding to the existing 6500 camping spaces around the famous Mount Panorama circuit.
“Introducing The Orchard has been a huge success and extremely well received,” Ms White said.
“It has opened up a suite of new options for campers to make the pilgrimage and stay trackside, right on the circuit close to the action and atmosphere.
“Many have moved into The Orchard from surrounding areas for the experience in an affordable, powered and family-friendly area.”
Ticket sales are also performing well, with there a good chance they will match last year’s massive crowd of 205,693 fans.
“Sales are tracking well, we hope to match the record crowd of last year which was the highest outside of the Peter Brock year,” Ms White said
“There have been strong increases in corporate booking and campsites which should help boost sales. We will see how we go over the next six weeks.”
She said there are a lot of milestones be marked in 2018, which could lead to bigger crowds.
They include Craig Lowndes’ last year as a full-time driver, the last time fans will see a Ford Falcon on the mountain and the 50th anniversary of Holden’s first win.
“Bathurst always brings up some extraordinary moments and we expect this year won’t disappoint,” Ms White said.
The Bathurst 1000 will officially be launched in Sydney on Thursday.
