Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre director Michael Sharpe and University NSW professor and inventor Veena Sahajwalla and both toured Bathurst on Thursday morning, visiting Truflo Pumping Systems.
Mr Sharpe believes the Central West has a bright manufacturing future ahead of itself, thanks to local jobs, growth opportunities and overseas exports.
“We’re seeing manufacturing growing right across Australia and it’s now 22 consecutive months of growth. That’s the largest expansion in manufacturing in over a decade,” he said.
“Here in the Central West, we’re seeing examples in both Dubbo and Bathurst. In the past couple of days, we’ve seen local companies that are employing local people, that creates new opportunities.
“It’s fantastic here in Bathurst. To see the opportunities at Truflo Pluming Systems, with exports heading off to Indonesia, plenty of local jobs and growth opportunities. It’s very, very good.
Ms Sahajwalla said it’s important for manufacturers to plan for the future.
“New ideas can add to the incredible work businesses are already doing,” she said.
“It makes us better prepared for the future and helps us be apart of the global manufacturing supple chain, by working with others globally.”
Truflo Pumping Systems is a manufacturing business based in Bathurst that, what its name implies, builds pumping systems and equipment, supplying both domestically and overseas.
Globally, pumps are exported mainly to Indonesia, PNG and Philippines, who have a heavy dependency on pumps due to their monsoon seasons.
There is roughly 50 employees on the ground at Bathurst.
It takes roughly six weeks to construct – constructing the pump and sandblasting takes three weeks, while the final three weeks are spent on assembling the system, painting, adding electrical systems, computers and then finally factory testing the product before it is exported.
