BATHURST’S netballers made an impact at the Western Regional Academy of Sport presentation night on Saturday.

The city boasts an impressive six athletes who have gradated from the program this year while one of those athletes, Teagan Germech, took out the Chairman’s Award at the evening’s ceremony.
Joining Germech in the graduating WRAS group was Zoe Lewis, Sara Reynolds, Pearl Grimmett, Melissa Noonan, Ella Muller and Clancy Best.
Melissa Noonan was the assistant coach for the program and was delighted to see such a talented group of players come through the program.
“Clancy, Pearl and Ella are new athletes while the others are returning athletes from the previous years and their development has been great,” she said.
“Even the little things like left handed passing, the improvement from start to finish has been easy to notice. It’s great seeing them develop.
“Because it’s an individual athlete program they are all developing at their own pace. They all do their own strength and conditioning program and it’s great seeing that being put back into Bathurst netball.”

Germech took out the Chairman’s Award while Lewis won the coach’s award.
“Teagan was an equal recipient of the award. It’s a great honour because there’s so many athletes who are a part of the WRAS program. There’s a lot of competition for that award,” Noonan said.
“Each sport puts up someone for nomination so winning that is a great achievement.
“Zoe Lewis won the coach’s award through her dedication. Her technique is great. She always gives 100 per cent with everything and she’s an outstanding athlete.”
The netballers were hopeful of turning up to the presentation night after a hard fought day’s play but all Bathurst Netball Association matches were called off on Saturday due to rain.
The cancellation leaves just two rounds of matches to go before finals.
In next weekend’s A grade games Panthers plays CSU Thunder, Collegians take on All Saints’ College and Bulldogs Verdelho faces Mana.
