Torrid conditions didn’t dampen City’s game as their excellent second half rally got them across the line.
Given the tight ladder situation City needed to come out firing to keep their faint second place hopes alive.
While Lithgow Panthers’ win over Souths denied City a chance to finish third they still made a strong statement for their upcoming minor semi-final against CYMS.
Kelsey Willott, who bagged a brace for City, said it was an encouraging result.
“It was a miserable, horrible day and rained through the entire game but it was a really good game for us,” she said.
“We needed to score as many goals as possible going into the finals … and it was a great way for us to end the season before going into semis next week.”
Other goal scorers for City were Lisa Quinn, Reita Holmes, Kelly Baker and Bridget Ellis.
City were rarely on the back foot against Zig Zag but were only able to put away two of several chances in the opening half.
Zig Zag’s Jana Winnard made things interesting with her goal for the hosts after half-time but it didn’t stop City’s momentum.
City picked up four goals across the half to seal a home semi-final, which would have instead been in Orange had CYMS bested St Pat’s on Saturday.

Given their large share of missed penalty corner chances the damage inflicted by City could have been even greater.
There were more positives than negatives to game out of the match, in Willott’s view, but there’s still elements of the game that need tidying up before next Saturday’s sudden death encounter.
“We did feel confident going into the game,” she said.
“We knew ZIg Zag would play hard though, given that it was going to be their last game for the season. They’d be keen to cause an upset so we went out hard.
“It was a good chance for us to practice some things, short corner-wise and positioning-wise. We got the chance to change things up, play around and see what would work for next week and onwards.
“We got two of our goals off corners but the rest came from field play. Corners are definitely something we have to work on. We had quite a number of them and didn’t quite execute as well as we would have liked.”
City finished two points off second-placed Panthers.
Zig Zag had the chance to get themselves off the bottom of the table with a win but ended the season with the wooden spoon.
BATHURST CITY 6 (Kelsey Willott 2, Lisa Quinn, Reita Holmes, Kelly Baker, Bridget Ellis) defeated LITHGOW ZIG ZAG 1 (Jana Winnard)
