COUNCILLOR Warren Aubin wants to see more local businesses embrace the tourism and economic opportunities presented to them by the Bathurst 1000.
Bathurst Regional Council hosts a number of events during Race Week, including the Legendary Moments dinner and the Saturday Street Fair.
Cr Aubin said he often hears businesses complain that there isn’t enough happening to lure tourists away from Mount Panorama.

He feels that the responsibility of providing attractions to race fans isn’t solely council’s, and that businesses should find ways to capitalise on the extra traffic with their own promotions and events.
“It’s not up to us to get them into their doors, they have to do things too,” Cr Aubin said.
He said Bathurst Business Chamber could get involved to and work with council and the business community to help businesses maximise the tourist dollar.
“Let’s look at it, let’s get everyone working and have a total festival atmosphere in the city and get people to come down [from Mount Panorama],” he said.
Meanwhile, registrations are now open for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 window display competition.
Local businesses are invited to dress their windows or shopfronts in a race theme for the chance to win prizes including a $2500 advertising package with the Western Advocate and 2BS/B-Rock and two four-day passes to the Great Race.
Bathurst Regional Council will supply participating businesses with a starter pack including posters, balloons and bunting.
