Ms Hunter, an apprentice electrotechnology electrician at MRG Electrical Services, received the Apprentice of the Year Award and Non-Traditional Trade Award.

Organisers said Ms Hunter was leading the way for women considering taking on roles in the traditionally male-dominated trades.

Bathurst’s Kaytlin Middleton and Viniththa Vasanthakumar received the Skills4Trade and Youth Connect awards.

Organisers said Ms Middleton enrolled in the initial Skills4Trade Community Services course after she found her retail job “wasn’t satisfying enough”. 

Ms Middleton is continuing with her studies and has enrolled in Certificate III Individual Support – Disability.

Ms Vasanthakumar was introduced to Skillset Youth Connect, a free service that guides people to plan, set and achieve their education, training and career goals.

Organisers said Ms Vasanthakumar discovered her passion and enrolled in Certificate III in Children’s Services following the career planning advice. 

TAFE NSW (Western), Bridges Bathurst (Brown & Associates), Bathurst Regional Council, Spatial Services and Brad Cambey were among the other winners across the Central West and Orana regions.

Skillset workforce senior manager Jane McWilliam said the awards were a great opportunity to recognise individuals and businesses. 

“We love to recognise our talented apprentices, trainees, students and organisations for their significant achievements. It’s amazing to see the transformations that our people go through and their achievements should be commended,” she said.
