Minister for Volunteering, Ray Williams, who was in Bathurst on Tuesday, presented Mrs McLeay with flowers and commended her on the role she has held in the community.
Mr Williams said Mrs McLeay was one of a 2.1 million strong army of volunteers across the state putting the hand up and making a difference for others.
Mrs McLeay, now 86, has been president of the club for the last 13 years, only stepping down last week.
Vice president of the Bathursr Senior Citizens, Wayne Reeks, said Mrs McLeay has done an amazing job as president.
“She’s been president for 13 years organising bus trips, market days at the centre, concerts during Seniors’ Week and the annual Christmas party.”
Mr Reeks said Mrs McLeay was well known in the Bathurst community.
“She was born and bred here and also ran the Happy Wanders Club,” he said.
Receiving the honour, Mrs McLeay said she never expected anything in return.
“I just like doing things for the community,” she said.
While she is stepping down from the president’s role, Mrs McLeay said she still plans to be very much involved in the club.
