The Keep it Local Bathurst campaign asks businesses to pledge to make a commitment to source their resources locally, where possible, before going elsewhere.
President Angus Edwards said the campaign comes after a recent survey conducted by the chamber, which found 72 per cent of businesses said that they could source more than half of their resources locally.
However, only 46 per cent of these businesses actively source more than half their resources from Bathurst.
“For the local businesses, especially with the drought impacting 94 per cent of businesses [in the region], it is more important than ever that we are supporting each other,” Mr Edwards said.
The pledge is only open to businesses chamber members, so those not yet part of the chamber need to join before they can take part.
Those who sign up to the campaign will receive promotional material, including shop front stickers, and a listing on the chamber’s website.
One of the businesses planning to sign up, the Green Dry Clean, has put its support behind the initiative.
Owner Linda Tanner said businesses can mutually benefit from supporting each other.
“For me, keeping everything local as an owner means keeping local people employed,” she said.
