A ROUND-ROBIN touch football competition being held as part of NAIDOC Week activities aims to bring the community together and break down barriers between police and Indigenous youth.

Seven teams are part of the competition being held on the rugby grounds at Charles Sturt University on Thursday with secondary schools from Bathurst competing against both police and paramedics.
Last year the competition had four teams, this year it has almost doubled in size with seven teams taking the field.
Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer with Chifley Police District, Percy Raveneau, said its a chance for everyone in the community to come together, breaking down barriers as they do so.
After being part of the NAIDOC celebrations earlier in the week, including a march down William Street, Mr Raveneau said it was great to see people from all walks of life involved.
“To see kids from kindy to Year 12, plus parents joining in NAIDOC Week celebrations, it’s great,” he said.
The event kicks off with a Welcome To Country at around 8.30am, and spectators are more the welcome.
Mr Raveneau said he wanted to thank the sponsors who have supported the day and made it possible.
“Without their help this wouldn’t happen,” he said.
