But if they race how they have all season, then it shouldn’t be a problem.
Heading into the penultimate round of the series at the Sydney Motorsport Park on September 21 to 23, Aubin Brothers Racing will be looking to hold onto its lead in their Renault Megane.
The duo have drastically improved this season, with Blake Aubin saying he and his brother have gone form underdogs in 2017 to challengers in 2018.
“Last year we were kind of the underdog, in most of the races we did. Now our competitors know what we’re capable of and now we are the hunted,” he said.
“It does hold a bit of pressure with that, but we’re just looking to punch above our weight, which we’ve been doing all season.
“We’re a little, local team, so to get these results is really good. Hopefully we can keep that up for Sydney and Phillip Island.”
Aubin said upgrades to the car during the off-season has changed the team’s fortunes.
“We’ve always known in ourselves what we’re capable of, we just needed to upgrade the car a little bit,” he said.
“We got a new fuel cell and other things like that, so we can be compete in these longer races.
“Once we did that, we started to get the results we’ve been aiming for. Just a little bit of tweaks and changes in the off-season. We’re getting more and more confident when we get in the car.”
While there might be some unwanted pressure in leading C class, Aubin said there’s also plenty of excitement.
“It’s getting to the business end, so there’s a lot of excitement but here’s also a bit of pressure on us, because we’ve led the entire way this year,” he said.
“We are definitely being the hunted at the moment, by our competitors, but we’re really looking forward to this weekend – it’s our home away from home.”
In the brothers’ last outing in the third round of the Australian Production Car Series, the Aubins bounced back from a mechanical nightmare to snag a class win at Winton.
During the Saturday session in the previous round, the brothers were unable to finish the race, but the follow day the Aubins got onto the grid and worked the car from the rear to the front to claim an incredible victory.
As well, the Aubin brothers wanted to give a special thank you to the team’s sponsors that have been supporting the brothers throughout the season – the Persuader, Vivability, BetterGrow, Inland Building and Construction, Bathurst Real Estate and the Bathurst RSL.
