And Sara Matthews, of Collegians, could’ve been involved in the family affair, if it wasn’t for her commitments with Basketball NSW on the same day.

Panthers qualified for the decider after a hard fought 38-23 preliminary final win over Bulldogs Verdelho on Saturday.

Collegians, who finished the regular season as minor premiers, went straight through to the grand final after defeating Panthers in the major semi-final on September 8.

Even though the two sisters are up against each other on Saturday, the banter at home has been quite reserved then what might be expected.

The sisters are more keen to let their netball do the talking come grand final time on Saturday.

“There’s been a bit of tension at home after the semi-final win the weekend before,” Caitlyn said.

“We don’t really talk about it, we just turn up and play,” Jess said.

Caitlyn said she’s keen for the challenge against Panthers, knowing how hard they’ve played against Collegians throughout the 2018 season.

“It’s going to be a good game. Panthers have always been the strongest team for us to play,” she said.

“We’re glad to playing the Panthers in the grand final.”

Collegians have only last one game the entire season so far, to Panthers back on the first Saturday of August.

No other team in A grade has come anywhere near close to knocking-off Collegians.

Panthers only lost two games during the regular season, which both came against Collegians, before losing a third game in the major semi-final to Collegians on September 8. 

Both Collegians and Panthers will both be desperate to win the grand final, after last year’s pain.

Collegians finished second but missed out on the grand final, while Panthers finished with the minor premiership but lost the decider to Bulldogs Verdelho.

Caitlyn said both her side and Panthers are evenly matched right across the court, but Jess is confident that Panthers can get the win, only if her side plays well as a team.

“We can’t let anything get to our head, rather we just need to play our game,” Jess said.

The match between Collegians Mystified and Panthers will start at 3pm, on court one, at the John Matthews Sporting Complex.
