This Sunday the Bathurst Golf Club will stage a local round of the Volkswagen Scramble – Australasia’s largest and most successful team’s pro-amateur golf event.
It is played as a teams Ambrose event under an innovative scramble style elimination format.
Teams of four amateur players contest the local event staged at each participating golf club. The winning teams from each of those are then joined by their club professional – in Bathurst’s case Matt Barrett – to contest one of the regional finals held around Australia in October.
The winning team from each regional final advances to the Volkswagen Scramble Championship Final held in early December at the Novotel Twin Waters Resort and Twin Waters Golf Club on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
The championship final is a 54-hole event with a 36-hole qualifying stage.
No other event in Australia provides the opportunity to play alongside your mates in a truly unique format. So at the end of the day, whether you make it through local, regional or championship final level, all 50,000 participants nationally walk away having been a part of the nation’s longest running and largest amateur golfing tournament.
Since it started in 1992, well over a million club golfers have participated in the scramble and over 10,000 local events have been held across Australia.
Bathurst’s event is sponsored by Bathurst Volkwagen.
It is managed by the Professional Golfers’ Association of Australia.
