Whincup is hopeful, but is taking nothing for granted given 300 points are on offer for both the victors of Bathurst and the Gold Coast 600.
“It was a good start for sure, but all these events are stand alone, you know, you prepare for Sandown, you prepare for Bathurst, you prepare for the GC 600 – they are all very different,” he said.
“I’ve had some big highs up there, I’ve had some lows, that’s what Bathurst is all about. We’ll go there and try to do the best job we can.
“Although it hasn’t gone our way the last few years at Bathurst, we’re pretty proud of the fact that we’ve been in contention and contributed to the race right up to the last laps. Fingers crossed we can do that again this year.”
