The resurfacing of the precinct’s three main fields – along with improved drainage and lighting – was the first stage of the $7 million redevelopment, and now focus will turn to the grounds’ amenities.
Bathurst Regional Council approved two tenders during a confidential session on Wednesday night that will allow the next stage of work to start immediately after the current football season.
Hynash has won an $882,000 tender to reseal the main Proctor Park car park, putting an end to muddy bog that’s created each time the region receives significant rainfall.
The work also includes upgraded lighting for the car park.
At the same time, councillors accepted a $687,000 tender from Tablelands Builders to build a new amenities block at Proctor Park.
The new amenities block will include change rooms for four teams and match referees and additional public amenities.
The tender price includes the demolition of the existing amenities block.
Council general manager David Sherley said it was hoped the work would be completed in time for the 2019 football season.
“The work is part of council’s continuing policy of upgrading local sporting facilities and creating specific precincts for as many different codes as possible,” he said.
The three main Proctor Park fields were returfed in March before the first matches were played on them in mid-June, but they were closed again just three weeks later due to damage to the surface.
Players returned to the fields in August and the local competition’s grand finals will be played there on Sunday.
Other works carried out at the precinct so far includes retaining walls and concrete paths, along with fencing of the fields.
