Bathurst RSL has taken a leading role in fundraising for drought-affected farmers over the past month or so, and this is the result.
Tracy Alder from Rural Aid’s Buy A Bale was on hand with RSL general manager Peter Sargent and RSL president Ian Miller as a truckload of hay was delivered to farmers in the Limekilns area over the weekend.
The gift was gratefully received as ongoing dry conditions right across the Central Tablelands have made it hard for farmers to keep up the feed to their stock.
The RSL kicked off its Buy A Bale fundraiser with a $10,000 donation in August and since then has provided a number of opportunities for club members to also help out, including $20 stickers.
They’ve also run a Play For Hay promotion each Friday and Saturday where lucky members have been given the chance to spin the money wheel. The member has won whatever amount they have spun, and the club has donated the same amount to the appeal.
All proceeds from the club’s fundraising efforts will be directed to local farming families.
Belt out a few bars at the bar
PUBLIC Choir returns to The George Hotel on Wednesday night and is sure to be another fun evening.
The monthly choir event has proven to be a real hit since it kicked off in March, with good crowds gathering in the front bar of the pub to be led in the singing of an old favourite by conservatorium executive director Graham Sattler.
It's always a great chance to get a few friends together, grab a drink and a meal and enjoy an old-fashioned sing-along.
The chosen hits so far have included The Beatles’ Hey Jude, Hunters and Collectors’ Throw Your Arms Around Me and INXS's Never Tear Us Apart, and while this month’s selection won’t be announced until 24 hours before the event, MitCon promises it will be another classic.
It all gets under way from 7pm Wednesday at The George.
It’s well worth a look.
