And the reason is twofold: he enjoys their company and he needs them to know that his repertoire includes more than the 1980s big-hair band Guns N’ Roses.
“When my wife and I were on our honeymoon in Fiji, we met a really lovely family who live out at Blayney,” he said.
“I’m hoping they come to the gig, as it would be great to see them. They were great people.
“On the honeymoon, I attempted to do an Axl Rose impersonation at the karaoke comp after maybe one too many Fiji Golds.
“So I need to show them I can actually sing.”
The Wolfe Brothers will be in Bathurst as part of a tour to support their fourth studio album, Country Heart, which entered the ARIA Country Chart at number two on the week of release.
The first single, Ain’t Seen It Yet, hit the number one position on the national country music radio chart and the video for the song reached the number one spot on the CMC Video Chart.
The Bathurst show will also feature Gord Bamford, a three-time male artist of the year in Canada, and New Zealand’s current female artist of the year, Jody Direen.
Bamford is described as bringing a “good old boy, beer-drinkin’, country party attitude” to his shows and is said to be fast building a big fan base in Australia after performing at the nation’s biggest festivals over the last two years.
Direen, who won the best country album award for her Shake Up CD at the last New Zealand Country Music Awards, has signed a deal with ABC Music in Australia and is spending a lot of time based out of Sydney.
Wolfe said it won’t be the band’s first visit to Bathurst.
“We have toured out to Bathurst a few times before with Lee Kernaghan on some of his tours,” he said.
“Actually, our first ever gig in Bathurst was at the racecourse while the Bathurst 1000 car race was on.
“We got to play in Pit Lane the night before the race.”
The Wolfe Brothers, with Gord Bamford and Jody Direen, will play at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre on Friday, October 12. Phone 6333 6161 for tickets.
