This is a common error, as the original quote was that the Great War was "the war to end war”.
The article also perpetrates the old furphy that the November 11, 1918 Armistice ended the Great War. It did not. It was only a ceasefire or cessation of hostilities.
The Allies did, in fact, make preparations in case conflict with Germany and its allies broke out again.
The war ended with the Peace Treaties that were signed in 1919.
