This Wednesday night the two clubs will face off once again for their annual cross-code battle of rugby league at CSU’s Diggings Oval, and for the 2018 edition the two women’s squads will come together for a tackle-based contest.
It’s been an exciting year for both the league and union clubs who recorded exciting finals runs.
Given the way their seasons played out, spectators should expect two fantastic matches at Diggings.
The rugby men rallied over an inspiring second half of the season – recovering from last place on the aldder – to reach the preliminary final of the New Holland Agriculture Cup, where they were bested by Parkes Boars.
Their women’s side managed to go one match further as they went down to the Bathurst Bulldogs in a grand final derby.
The mungoes ladies locked out the league tag grand final while the men came up one win shy of the premiership after a loss to the undefeated Blackheath Blackcats.
It will be an especially interesting battle in the women’s match, asking the league players to test their tackle skills while changing the way the union side operate around the ruck.
The Mungoes vs Mustards clash was first held in 2014 where the rugby boys got the bragging rights in a thrilling 22-20 result.
This Wednesday’s women’s match starts from 6.30pm and the men’s game gets underway at 7.30pm.
