THE phrase "Treat yourself" proved incredibly fruitful for Bathurst resident Elaine Barrott.
Those words, uttered by her husband, were what led her to entering the BizMonth promotion through Bake, Table and Tea and eventually winning the big prize, a Kia Picanto.
Mrs Barrott got to see her new car at Clancy Motors on Tuesday morning, arriving at the dealership with her family in tow.
The car itself is a 2018 model, with features such as a reversing camera, automatic emergency braking, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a seven-year factory warranty.
BizMonth is an initiative of Bathurst Regional Council, while the giveaway is a promotion run in partnership with the Western Advocate, council, Prime7, Clancy Motors and the Bathurst Business Chamber.
Mrs Barrott was so excited to have won a Kia Picanto, after admiring one her granddaughter, Paris, owned.
"She had just traded her car in and I used to drive hers around and I loved it," she said.
"It is really unbelievable to look at [the new car] and think I'll be driving it home."
One of the first trips she plans to take the car on is to Bake, Table and Tea.
"I'm going to go up there and show all the girls. They're so lovely up there," she said.
Clancy Motors dealer principal Michael Pentecost said he was pleased to hand over the car to someone like Mrs Barrott.
"It is actually good to see a local person who supports local businesses win the competition, and someone who really appreciates the intent behind why local businesses support BizMonth," he said.
Owner of Bake Table and Tea, Melissa Kelly, was also thrilled to see one of her customers win the car.
"She is such a beautiful customer. She’s become like family in our store," she said.
Ms Kelly also praised BizMonth and the promotion as a whole, saying it was a great initiative that celebrated and supported local businesses.
“It’s absolutely amazing that we were part of it,” she said.
“We don’t have a very big advertising budget, so to be able to participate in the BizMonth campaign, it was a really affordable and affective way for us to support BizMonth.”
“For us, it’s great to see that there is this BizMonth that celebrates and supports local business.”
Western Advocate sales manager Nils Gustafson thanked everyone who participated in the promotion.
"I would like to thank all the Bathurst Businesses and their local customers for participating in the buy local promotion," he said.
"Also thanks to Prime 7, Angus Edwards and the Bathurst Business Chamber, plus Steve Bowman and the team at Bathurst Regional Council for the excellent Biz Month events.”
