The crumpled car was in Bathurst as part of a national initiative from ANCAP (the Australasian New Car Assessment Program) to promote safer vehicle choices.
The Kia, with state of the art safety features, was crash-tested at 50Km an hour, but it’s passenger cell remained intact, meaning anyone inside would walk away from the crash.
ANCAP chief executive James Goodwin was in Bathurst to launch the display, which until now has only been available in metropolitan areas.

Sixty-seven per cent of NSW road deaths occur in regional and remote areas and older cars are disproportionately represented in fatal crashes - which, Mr Goodwin said, highlighted the importance of “buying the safest car you can afford”.
“People can see the difference a safer car can make,” he said.
Calare Academy of Road Safety director Matt Irvine, who was instrumental in having the crash-tested car brought out west, said the educational value of people seeing the damaged car could not be underestimated.
The car will tour other regional centres.
