A team of 62 cars and 155 entrants will depart Bathurst on Sunday bound for Wagga Wagga as part of the Camp Quality esCarpade.
This year’s route will pass through regional areas that are home to several families affected by cancer.
Camp Quality says more than three in five (or 61 per cent) of Australian children diagnosed with cancer are supported by its programs and services.
Camp Quality’s goal is to reach them all and fundraisers like esCarpade are crucial in involving the community and raising much needed funds.
Chief executive officer Kylea Tink said the event is about having fun, while also raising money for cancer.
“At Camp Quality it’s all about protecting and nurturing a child’s sense of childishness: even as they face the daily ups and down of cancer,” she said.
“We call this childishness Kid-ness and explain it as the sheer delight of being in the moment, the strength to believe anything is possible and giving with all your heart.
“Our kids live and breathe Kid-ness, as do our esCarpadians. The event is ultimately all about having fun with your mates; being a big kid and spreading colour and positive energy to communities right across Australia.
“As a fundraiser it’s incredibly important to us as we don’t currently receive any substantial state or federal funding. We are reliant on everyday Australians, just like our esCarpadians, who really believe what we are doing is important.”
The team will be at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre for a dinner on Saturday night.
On Sunday, the esCarpade team will be at the volunteer shed at Mount Panorama from 7.30am before departing at 9am.
The team will arrive in Parkes at 12.30pm, before heading to Dubbo’s Macquarie Inn for the night.
On the Monday, the team will leave Dubbo and head to Narromine, before arriving at Bourke.
On Tuesday the team will leave Bourke and head for Lightning Ridge, spending the entirety of Thursday at Lightning Ridge.
Come Friday, the team will held to Baradine and Nyngan, leaving Nyngan on Friday morning for West Wyalong.
The esCarpade will come to an end at Wagga Wagga on Friday, October 27.
Camp Quality has set a target of $1.35 million and, as of early Tuesday morning, $705,716 had already been raised.
