The purpose of the day is to draw attention to the fight against graffiti vandalism by removing it from the community and ideally prevent it from returning.
Graffiti Removal Day chairman Bob Aitken said many different groups, including Rotary and Lions clubs, Scouts Australia, Girl Guides and the Australian Air Force Cadets, had jumped on board.
“We are also encouraging local artists and schools to become involved in the design of murals,” he said.
“However you don’t need to be creative to be involved, we can all show how we love where we live by volunteering to remove graffiti or simply reporting it.”
The Bathurst Rotary Club will be taking the lead on graffiti removal locally.
“This year we’re doing the community centre in Russell Street,” the club’s Chris Bennett said. “There is a whole wall down there we are going to do.”
The club has cleaned up graffiti from 42 sites over the past year and has another 38 it hopes to target.
Of the 40 sites that had been cleaned up, there were only two that were targeted by vandals again.
Mr Bennett said any volunteers who want to come along to the main removal site can meet behind the centre in the car park.
Removal will start at 9am on Sunday.
