The nine-year-old from Tony Hagney’s stable was not really expected to feature in the Central West Plumbing and Gasfitting Pace (1,730 metres), but with Trent Rue in the gig the $14 chance sprung an upset.
The Falcon Seelster x Tibetan Lass gelding went from barrier three and after being third early, settled one out and three back. Up front Camelot Speedster ($10) with Amanda Turnbull in the gig set the tempo.
But after guiding Tim McGee four-wide through the final bend, Rue got him motoring and he hit the front with some 40m to go. He won by 4.5m over $1.35 favourite Afterdinnerspeaker in a 1:57.7 mile rate.
It was the ninth victory of his career and first since he won a Country Series Heat at Peak Hill on June 10 as an $81.60 outsider.
