DEPUTY mayor Bobby Bourke has thanked those who registered for the Driving for Drought 1000 fundraiser which was planned for later this month.

The fundraiser – which aimed to have 1000 cars moving on Mount Panorama at the same time – was cancelled earlier this month due to a lack of registrations.
But Cr Bourke, who was the driving force behind the fundraiser, which was being organised by Bathurst Regional Council, said the event would still achieve its aim of helping drought-stricken farmers.

He said those who registered and paid their $50 entry fee had the option of getting their money back or having it donated to the cause.
Thanks to the generosity of those who chose to donate their entry fee, he said more than $4000 would be going to Buy A Bale.
“It’s a bit disappointing [that the event is not going ahead], but I want to thank those who did register because this money has gone to a good cause,” Cr Bourke said.
Driving For Drought 1000 was launched in August.
