Though the Peter Bullock, Bathurst trained six-year-old had not won since saluting on November 15, 2017 at Dubbo, Lorenzo Shannon had a handy record at Young.
One of his seven prior career wins came at the track as well as three seconds and a pair of thirds, meaning he was a $5.50 chance for the Young Carwash Pace (2,100 metres).
Going from barrier five in his 101st race start, McKayler Barnes made an important move early.
After Bettorbetbig initially flew out and took the lead, Barnes found space between him and Anodoubt. She urged Lorenzo Shannon on and he crossed his rivals.
Once in front that was where he stayed, holding off a late challenge from Nathan Turnbull’s $2.60 favourite Hey Suzie to win by 1.9m. He clocked a 2:00.8 mile rate.
