Judging at the 20^th National Cool Climate Wine Show (NCCWS) wound up in Bathurst on Friday and this year’s event attracted more than 800 entries from 157 wineries across Australia.

This year’s exhibitors received a total of 389 medals – 36 gold, 86 silver and 257 bronze – and 14 trophies.

Among the trophies was the Don Anderson Perpetual Champion Central Ranges Trophy which was named in honour of the late owner of Three Views Vineyard.

Ruth Anderson told the Western Advocate through tears that she was surprised and honoured that the trophy was named in her late husband’s honour.

“I think he’d be very proud. He was a great guy who worked very hard in his life,” she said.

Mr and Mrs Anderson were married for 55 years and, prior to his death in 2016, they ran their 3.5 hectare vineyard in Caloola together.

Wines by Three Views Vineyard also scored two medals during the NCCWS – a silver for the 2013 Cabernet Malbec Merlot and a bronze for the 2018 Riesling.

“I’m really pleased with those results,” Mrs Anderson said.

NCCWS spokeswoman Michelle Kerr said the trophy was named in Mr Anderson’s honour for all the hard work he and Mrs Anderson had put into the Bathurst wine industry.

“They’d put in a lot of work into his own vineyard and they’d contributed to the wine show for many, many years,” she said.

“They benchmarked Riesling for the region … we wanted to name it in his honour and also for what he’s done for the region.”
