On Tuesday, students from five schools and two daycare centres joined in the flower picking activity, which saw posies created for seven Bathurst aged care facilities.
Instead of just letting the flowers go to waste, mayor Graeme Hanger said Bathurst Regional Council wanted to re-purpose them ahead of summer planting.
“The spring flowers have reached their used by date, so it’s time to take them out and get ready for summer planting,” he said. “It’s an opportunity for school students in Bathurst to do something and make some posies.”
Students received assistance from staff of Vanessa Pringle Floral Designs in constructing the posies.
The flowers were later delivered to the facilities, which were Bathurst Seymour Centre, Cheriton Retirement Village, Daffodil Cottage, Illumba Gardens, Macquarie Care Centre, Opal and St Catherine’s Catholic Health Care.
This is the second time council has run this activity, it being first held in 2017.
Cr Hanger said it was a huge success then and the activity was sure to become an annual tradition.
“I can’t see why it can’t become an annual thing; it just works so well,” he said.
